Harbor Honors Bob Allen at 2016 Good Skipper Celebration
This year marked the Harbor’s fourth annual Fantasy Football Draft Night (FFDN) at NRG Stadium. When the event was in the early planning stages it was decided we needed a “Football Commissioner” to oversee the draft activities and serve as the evening’s emcee. The unanimous choice was native Houstonian and KHOU television sportscaster Bob Allen.
Allen served as the Football Commissioner and emcee for the inaugural FFDN in 2013 and fell in love with the Harbor and the event. He returned as Commissioner and emcee the following year. During the last two years while fighting his battle against cancer, Bob was not able to attend the event in person, but kept in touch with the Harbor and was there in spirit.
Last week Bob lost his battle with cancer and the Harbor lost a dear friend! Bob Allen was not just another TV sportscaster…he was a LEGEND! He spent just over 38 years at KTRK, Channel 13, keeping Houston current on all kinds of sports. After leaving KTRK three years ago, he joined KHOU, Channel 11, where he continued to share his knowledge of sports with all of his fans.
Throughout the years, Bob Allen was a leader in our community. He served as a spokesperson to help raise money for many worthy charities, including Boys & Girls Harbor. We pause this week to take a moment to remember our special friend with this video tribute.
